Two slightly different bust designs exist for the 1831 & 1832 Sovereign. Identification is most easily accomplished by checking the alignment of the monarch's nose. The first bust has the tip of William's nose pointing to the 2nd 'N' of 'BRITANNIAR', whilst the 2nd bust has his nose pointing to the 2nd 'I'. Whilst both versions are scarce, the first bust version is the more collectable of the two.
The example photographs you see above are of a rather damaged 2nd bust example. Not knowing what the coin was made of, the owner took it to a high street 'cash for gold' buyer who sadly chose to do a rather destructive 'acid test' on it! In doing so, it's value was slashed by well over £600!
